Iron Jawed Angels Essay Example For Students
Iron Jawed Angels Essay Outline1 Introduction:2 SOCIAL PROBLEM:3 ALICE PAUL, A SYMBOL FOR CHANGE:4 WHO DO NOT WANT CHANGE?5 Decision: Introduction: Womenââ¬â¢s Suffrage was a great motion geared towards availing adult females the ability to the right of ballot. Two adult females together assisted the National American Woman Suffrage Association develop and turn to over 2 million by 1971. They supposed it was paramount to travel province by province to achieve each provinces support separately. Iron Jawed Angels was a really socially and politically right movie, which is picturing the attempts of the suffragetteââ¬â¢s. The function of Alice Paul was played by Hilary Swank, a brilliant and noncompliant adult female who puts her life on interest for the right to vote. Even though her positions werenââ¬â¢t trendy, but she kept at her cause. Alice Paul and others petitioned a war against the president outside of his ain abode for months during the clip of difficult conditions and even harder critical and disapproving crowds. It was non believed by anyone, what they did was ethical, and so non evens the security bureaus and constabularies would protect them. With the transition of clip, the protestors were obligatorily removed under charges of ââ¬Å"blocking trafficâ⬠, and they were sent to Occoquan Workhouse for three months. Though, they were behind the bars, they were forced to work in an flagitious environment. Alice Paul was chose to maintain in a hungriness wo rk stoppage and she was force-fed the natural eggs with the aid of a fictile tubing many times. SOCIAL PROBLEM: Historians discuss that most adult females believed, they were created to populate as the girl, married woman, female parent, and housewife and that was their exclusive intent. To travel next that was inhumane and cruel, it was non their topographic point in faith to withstand their hubbies. They are besides restricted to set their kids and siblings through something parlous. Many adult females believed that when we got the right to vote, it should merely do sense and if it was kept into well-born of the household. Our society has splashed the beads of the gender favoritism. It seems like the cultural political orientation throughout the universe. I think it is the effects of the faith on our society. In every alleged revealed faith claims that, I have given the rights to the adult females, but in world faith merely authorise the adult male, within the society. So the jobs with the rights of the adult females are really common among many civilizations of the universe. These rights are for the protection and autonomy of the adult females in the society. The chief subject of the film besides is to give a suited position to the lady of the society because adult male and adult females have fewer differences than the similarities. ALICE PAUL, A SYMBOL FOR CHANGE: In this film, the character Alice Paul is being used as the symbol for the alteration. The prima function played by the Hilary Swank. She has to alter the position or switch the paradigm. Because in our society it is ever suppressed the adult female by extinguishing their societal rights i.e. right to vote, right to work, right to get married and love. A free mind or a broad mind is a good illustration of a pervert. This type of individuals frequently rejected the authorization. Most free minds are those who rebel to their spiritual beliefs. Religious beliefs are frequently based on tenet. There is no nexus of rationalism when we covering with faith. It is frequently observed that there is no infinite of aberrant behaviour in faith. It is ever prohibited. Free minds form their ain belief, thoughts and sentiments autonomously of any authorization, which imposed their ain positions. They do non pattern any outside inspiration to force them into a judgement. Furthermore, these types of people will raise the inquiry about morality of the Torahs of society and civilization. Rules and ordinances are merely supposed to be followed and sometime imposed to the peoples and non questioned. When Torahs are interrogated, a free mind becomes an extremist and extremist in the position of a society. The Hippopotamus: Endangered Species Report EssayWithout the Feminist Movement and run, adult females might still be objectified and presented as diminished and treated as nevertheless they were slaves to work forces. If the run did non take topographic point in the clip which it did, it is hard to give a topographic point where adult females would be in the universe today. But now, adult females would hold the rights they made so, but certainly it would hold a different feeling if it had occurred more late. This scenario of racial ferociousness and inhumanness drew an attending of international jurisprudence and enforcement bureaus. They were instrumental and involved in their minutes and everlastingly changed the American Society and its hereafter. Both the leaders have different civilizations, motivations and backgrounds, but their causes relatively same. The motivations are behind their behaviours for which they stood against subjugation, unfairness and sought the freedom for all. Their beliefs, attempts and battles were evident and apparent in their authorship. Two of the most celebrated Hagiographas in the American History are ââ¬Å"Letter from Birmingham Jailâ⬠and ââ¬Å"Declaration of Independenceâ⬠. The capable affair of both the Hagiographas is intended and oppressed audience, and they are succeeded to actuate them. That was the clip when black adult females and work forces were violently and consistently denied a platform and policy from which they could easy and publically discourse their issues to the state and autocratic. Decision: The books of womenââ¬â¢s history have continuously been linked with modern womens rightist political relations every bit good as with fluctuations in the persuasion of history itself. When adult females required start inquiries about favoritisms in their ain lives they bowed to history to grok the beginnings of their subjection and to understand what they could get from trials that had been made earlier. If a adult female s portion could be shown to be informally constructed within a elaborate historical position, instead than ordinary and general, so womens rightists could claim that it was unfastened to alteration. Women s history is now distant more entrenched in the class in higher instruction than half a century before ; the figure of chaps in adult females s history has greater than earlier and there are far extra publication openings. Furthermore preparation of the adult female courses both at undergraduate and at graduate student classs have decayed over the same period and many conventional history texts silent and give small infinite to adult females and their peculiar experiences. In this model it remains important to advance scrutiny into adult females s antiquity both inside the college and in the broader community. The close association between modern womens rightist political relations and historical preparation means that adult females s history is still capable to excite enthusiasm and is invariably traveling, emerging new countries to research and new perceptual experiences and methods with which to analyse them.

Sociologist Bibliography Essay Example For Students
Sociologist Bibliography Essay ââ¬Å"To live is to fight, to preserve life is to fight everything that man stands for. â⬠Patrick Ness I used to hear somebody told me that ââ¬Å"Life is a journeyâ⬠; and to me, I used to think simply that my lifeââ¬â¢s journey is to happiness. In order to achieve the future happiness, I studied hard, worked hard even I left my potential career in Vietnam and flew a half of the earth to United State to chase so-called ââ¬Å" the American dreamâ⬠which I believed to possibly fulfill my happiness. Until now, I can assert that Iââ¬â¢m still on the right way to achieve my lifeââ¬â¢s purpose. And through the sociology course, I have a chance to closely see my way and to understand deeply reasons and motivations for me to think and to act such a way. My life is divided into 2 periods: one in Vietnam and one in United States; however, I find that as any individual in any society, Iââ¬â¢m in the battle to fight against the existing inequalities in social class, gender and minority. The first thing I learned from my background was that education will be an efficient ââ¬Å"equalizerâ⬠for social class. My opinion is completely contrast to the Conflict theory which sees the purpose of education as maintaining social inequality and preserving the power of those who dominate society (Tischler, 2014, p. 351). I was born in a tiny town in the small province of central region of Vietnam. I grew up in the period after 12 years when the Vietnam War against America ended. After more than a decade completely closed with the outside, Vietnamese government started to open the free-market and welcome FDI to invest into Vietnam, in other words ââ¬Å"adopting some elements of capitalism while retaining most of its authoritarianismâ⬠(Vuving, 2013, p. 25). This helped to open many opportunities for urbanization and increasing job chances. However, where I lived was just a small town in the central region of Vietnam, the change seemed to come late. Differ to other big cities, the economy of my province still depended on the state-own organizations. My parents never graduated from university but joining some college. They worked as the normal white-collar workers in the state-own companies. My mom was a nurse for a public hospital, meanwhile my father was a driver for marble export company. As Tischlerââ¬â¢s definition in Introduction to Sociology, my family could be categorized as a middle-middle class which possibly ââ¬Å"shares many characteristics with the upper-middle class, but its members have not been able to achieve the same kind of lifestyle because of economic or educational shortcomingsâ⬠(p. 182). This means that compare with my classmates in richer families, I didnââ¬â¢t have the luxury clothes and hardly had a chance to eat at the restaurants like them. The only thing I was the same with them was the education. However, very few of the rich in my society were regarded as the upper middle class in the real meaning: both having a lot of money and high education, because most of them didnââ¬â¢t have bachelor degree or even high-school diploma. In spited of limited economic, my parents tried to work hard to afford the best education for me. I went to the best school and taught by the best teachers in my province. I was thankful for my parentsââ¬â¢ great sacrifice and I didnââ¬â¢t want to disappoint them. Therefore, in past twelve years from primary school to high school, I always tried my best to accomplish the best scores in class. However, as a child, I was sometimes sad and wondered why I couldnââ¬â¢t have such a good condition as my friendââ¬â¢s family. Luckily, I had a great mother who always encouraged me that my family may be not as rich as them, however, I could change my life by studying hard, later on getting a better job and having a better conditions like them. And my Mom was correct. Finally, after high school graduation, I got admission into a good university in a big city. Iââ¬â¢m the first person in my family graduated from university with good GPA and qualified for a good job in multi-national companies where I had a chance to socialize with the upper class. Climate Change and World Food Supply EssayIn a new country, I started my life with two bare hands, however this country makes me believe that thereââ¬â¢re still many chances opening for such a women like me. Here, women are more respected by men. They are no longer subordinate to the men but has the fair role with men. I was really impressed and highly appreciated when the first time I was opened the door by a man. I was never treated as the same way by Vietnamese men. All of these made me believe that itââ¬â¢s never too late for me to start again. Finally I recognized that my fatherââ¬â¢s saying was untrue. I shouldnââ¬â¢t limit my capability just because my father said so. My father just had the same view point of the functionalists. However, in America, I met another trouble with my ethnic inequality. Before coming to America, I used to believe that United State really was heaven. And I decided to leave my career to find ââ¬Å"American dreamâ⬠. Hauhart defined ââ¬Å"American dreamâ⬠was that ââ¬Å"Coupled with the ideal that you have the freedom to work hard and accomplish what you want in your life, itââ¬â¢s about finding happiness and solace in your present lifestyleâ⬠(pp. 213-214). It canââ¬â¢t be denied that this definition is untrue. No matter of any society, everyone must work hard to overcome the poverty. However, I couldnââ¬â¢t imagine that the troubles I had to meet here are out of my expectation. Two biggest barriers for me to adapt to the new community are culture and language. I took a great effort to adapt with the culture shock here. In addition, because Iââ¬â¢m a Vietnamese, my English isnââ¬â¢t proficiency enough to get the same job as financial analysis as I used to work in Vietnam. Therefore, in order to sustain for new life, I had to work manual jobs like a busser in a pizza restaurant This was really big shock for me. I used to work hard to change my social status from middle-middle class to upper-middle class in Vietnam. But here, in the new country, my social status fell down two levels to lower middle class or even lower class. Obviously, because of lack of English proficiency, I belong to the minority group in the new society. Until now, I havenââ¬â¢t yet found any proof for ethnic discrimination in my working environment. However, I gradually learn to accept the reality that Iââ¬â¢m in minority group of this country, and the only way I change my present status is that I must go to school again. I must master my English then get bachelor degree to improve my standard of living and my social class. In conclusion, as Bill Gateââ¬â¢s saying: ââ¬Å"Life is not fair, get used to itâ⬠. I think that Bill Gatesââ¬â¢s thinking is correct. Now, our society remains many inequality in race, gender, social class These inequalities will last long until the human being still exist in the earth. However, I still believe in life that if we never give up and we try to work hard enough, we can change our own life. And I want together with my society, especially the people suffering the same situation with me go on having strong willingness to fight for the better life, because ââ¬Å"to live is to fightâ⬠. Verify the overhead cost per unit reported by the consulting group using direct labour hours to assign overhead. Compute the per unit gross margin per product. Recompute the unit cost of each product using activity based costing. Compute the per unit gross margin for each product. Activity Based Cost per Unit Produced= total activity costs/ total number units for the activity. Total activity costs: â⬠¢X-12=Prime costs +OH costs = $4.27+$6.41 =$10.68 â⬠¢S-15= Prime costs +OH costs = $3.13+$2.89 =$6.02 Per unit Gross Margin: Revenues per unit: = units sold * selling price X-12= 1,000,000*$15.93=$15,930,000 S-15=200,000*$12.00=$2,400,000 Total Unit costs: X12=$10.68, S15=$6.02 X-12=$ (15.93-10.68) = $5.25, S-15=$ (12-6.02) =$5.98 Per unit profit margin for product X-12$5.25/15.93*100=32.97% Per unit product margin for unit S-15$5.98/12*100=49.83% Hence, a further increase in the price of S-15 would provide the entity with a greater profit as well as enabling the entity to increase its profitability through additional production of the commodity. As provided product, x-12 has lower profit margin per unit because of the great costs associated with the production process. However, such costs could be reduced in various ways by the management to increase the profitability form the product. 3. Should the company switch its emphasis from the high volume product to the low volume product? Comment on the validity of the plant managerââ¬â¢s concern that competitors are selling below the cost of producing compound X-12. The overheads of the product X-12 are reducing the profitability of the organisation. Some measures in terms of cost reduction could be established by the organisation in the specified production process. This would ensure an increase in revenues and profitability from the product. Furthermore, the product has higher demand than the S-15; hence, there is a need to ensure that the organisation would reduce the costs of production associated with the specified product. This would accrue economies of scale associated with the production process as well as organisational processes. 4. Explain the apparent lack of competition for S-15. Comment also on the willingness of customers to accept a 25% increase in price for this compound. The production processes of product S-15 are specialised requiring the need for special handling and labour to run the processes steps. Consumers are willing to accept the 255 increase in the purchase price of this commodity as it is scarce in the market. The scarcity of the product S-15 is due to minimal presence of manufacturers in this product making of S-15. Hence, they are willing to accept the product at any price, as they understand the speciality procedures sued in making the product. 5. Describe what actions you would take based on the information provided by the activity-based unit costs. As an organisational executive, I would ensure an increase in the price of the product S-15 to ensure that the product reduces the costs of product X-12. In addition, I would also ensure that the organisation increases sales in relation to the demand of product X-12 by reducing the overhead costs of the product. The overhead costs have increased costs of making of the product. The product X-12 does not require any form of specialised production process, which translates to the presence of irrelevant costs in the production processes that could be reduced o r done away with to increase the profitability of the organisation from the sale of the product X-12. PART B: Direct Materials$9.00Direct Labour3.00Variable Overhead2.50Fixed Overhead4.00Total$18.50 1.?Cost to buy goods (CTB) =Volume * supplierââ¬â¢s landed costs Cost to make product (CTM) = fixed costs of making product+ (Per unit direct cost of making) The differences in the results of the tow methods lead to a conclusion of either making or purchasing the goods. If the values of CTB are lesser than the values of CTM, then it is favourable to purchase form other manufacturers instead of making the goods. â⬠¢ Z911=40,000 units annually Total costs of production of units produced annually = 40,000*$18.50=$ 740,000 Total overheads per unit of production = 2.50+4.0 =$6.50 Total Overheads fro all the units produced annually= $ 6.50* 40,000= $260,000 Total fixed costs= Cost To Buy = 40,000 unit * cost of purchase = $16 =40,000*16= $640,000 Cost to make product (CTM) = fixed costs of making product+ (Per unit direct cost of making) Total fixed costs Direct materials=9.00 Direct labour = 3.00 Fixed OH= 4.00 Total costs= $16.0 2. Hence, the organisation could be better off to make the purchase the product from other manufacturers as they are able to ensure that the there are cost reductions in terms of labour and from the operation of the line of production. 3. This would save the entity $88, 000 in costs, which can be used for other purposes in the organisation or production processes. PART C: Essentially management accountants are tasked with ensuring that the information they provide is relevant and precise for the numerous organisational purposes of such information. In addition, the complexities encountered in the allocation of costs in the production process require specialised skills of management accountants to arrive at succinct and precise information about the costs in the various production processes. Cost accounting has been in focus since the advent of the industrial revolution, as the production process became complex as well as separated form control issues in the organisation. Hence, management accountants are tasked with ensuring that the entity acquires adequate information in terms of the costs related to the production processes for eventual allocation of resources by the management. The core activities revolving around the roles of management accountants include participation in planning in both strategic and operational levels that involve the establishment of regulations and policies in the budget making policies. Hence, they are greatly involved in the allocation of costs to the various production processes in a plant as well as other activities that aid in running of the entity. Management accountants are accustomed to the evaluation of stocks, as well as the preparation of monthly reports on such issues in the organisation that forms part of the cost and management accounting roles in any organisation. Such ensures that the entity evaluates the profitability levels, as well as the growth of the shareholderââ¬â¢s equity. In essence, this enables managers to understand the various fundamentals, which have a role in the share value of the organisation. In addition, other roles are evident from the examples; the management accountants are tasked with ensuring that there are changes in terms of the perspectives of view of the various costs in the organisation. Fundamentally, they are tasked with informing the organisation of the profitability of some production processes. In addition, such provides management with the view of making decisions such as the make or buy decisions commonly found in manufacturing entities. Ensures that entities are able to put a balance between the qualities of products and consumer satisfaction as well ensuring the profitability of the organisation form the production processes.

Essay on Business Communication Skills
Essay on Business Communication Skills Essay on Business Communication Skills Ethical business communication skills allow managers to effectively communicate with internal and external staff on a personal basis. Organizational communication skills are used with internal and external stakeholders for the purpose of coordination of leadership and staff behaviors. Managers use leadership skills to utilize key external concepts such as stories, metaphors and strategic dialog to establish supportive relationships with colleagues. It seems that more and more emphasis are being placed on corporate relationships and less on authority. This relational focus has been accompanied by a growing interest in the phenomenon of trust which is considered as an important component of the social structure. Exchanging thoughts and nonverbal communication by sharing information, providing feedback and maintaining social relationships are the steps that has to be taken to develop and nurture such an environment. Today's emerging ethnic consumers represent the largest which is the most overlooked market in America. According to the 2000 U. S. Census, by 2050, people of color will represent 55 percent of the population. Ethnic Americans have economic clout and their spending power has grown tremendously doubled in the past decade and is now almost $3 trillion. There has been a fair amount of research describing the portrayal of racial minorities in advertising. For some time advertisers have attempted to communicate the look and feel of their messages in accordance with the makeup of their targeted audience. For example African Americans have been shown to display a more positive attitude toward the advertisement and the product itself when black models are portrayed. In general (non-ethnic) audiences have shown to react positively to the increased incidence of African Americans in advertisements. By the same token, studies have shown that the white audience reaction to black characters range from neutral to negative, depending on elements of their demographic profiles. The lack of effective communication can make or break a company, a product, or a diversity initiative. Currently I am working for an organization that is more the 95% Indian; I find their very heavy accent is a daily challenge for me. By now I am use to being the minority (being

Law of International Trade Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 3500 words
Law of International Trade - Essay Example The two agreed that payment would be done through a letter of credit, through a bank that the two parties would agree on. However, on Feb 17, 2012, NASS suggested to MSC that they could transfer the goods through the M/S Speedy Delivery, which was already at the port of Mumbai. The two CEOs agreed on how this would be done. The challenge During loading the goods to the ship, it is indicated that the crane snapped causing loss of 1,000 units instantly. However, upon leaving the port, the Master M/S Speedy Delivery recorded that all the materials, which had been requested by NASS, had been loaded on the ship. This is despite the fact that 1,000 units had already accidentally dropped in water and therefore, remaining only 9,000 units. On March 20, 2012, Somalia pirates attacked the ship where 3,000 units of speakers were stolen. In the process of struggle, further 1,000 units were destroyed. This was a loss that had not been anticipated by any of the parties in the contract. In addition to this loss, it is indicated that as the ship left for Southampton, it faced challenges at the Mediterranean Sea. Due to dangerous and unexpected waves, about 1,000 more units were lost. The remaining units (4,000) arrived at the Southampton Port on 10th, April 2012. According to the NASS representatives at the port, only 9,000 units had been loaded in the ship before it left from Mumbai. This was against had been indicated in the bill of lading. Of the 4,000 units delivered, only 3,000 were functional. The inspectors indicated that the 1,000 units, which were malfunctioned, could trace their defect from the manufacturing company in Mumbai. For that reason, NASS has the right to make claims for damages both from the owners of the ship and the manufacturing company. Question 1 you are a trainee solicitor in a Golden Circle law firm in London. You have been asked by the Chair of the International Sale Contracts Department of the law firm to explain what rights, if any, NASS may have against MSC in respect of the breach, if any, of the international sale of goods contract entered into between the CEOs of both corporations. The Chair does not want you to consider the breach, if any, of any carriage of goods contract by the owner(s) of the M/S Speedy Delivery, nor the Rome 1 Regulation of the European Union. In the above statement of the case, it is clear that NASS is guaranteed compensation by both the owners of the ship and the exporting company. The losses suffered could be attributed to the mistakes by both the owners of the ship and the exporters. From the terms and conditions of sale, the contract will only remain valid if all goods delivered to NASS were quality goods. However, upon inspection by NASS, 1,000 units of goods delivered were found to be defective. This is a good ground for the company to sue for damages. In international trade laws, the importing companies would receive compensation through two main ways. Firstly, the 1,000 units which were ma lfunctioned could be replaced with quality others. For that reason, MSC would be required to compensate NASS by providing 1,000 units. This owes to the fact that the company was to blame for the malfunctioned goods. Secondly, NASS has a right to ask for a refund of amount equivalent to that of the malfunctioned goods. As indicated in the agreement, each of the unit was to cost 400 pounds. With 1000 units destroyed, NASS has a right

What an education mean to me Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1500 words
What an education mean to me - Essay Example Education for her is confined to the realm of the observable, quantifiable and rational. Education occurs in the classroom mostly, and occasionally in the field under controlled conditions. I know a man in my motherââ¬â¢s neighborhood that is constantly learning. He told me that education and learning for the sake of understanding is enough for him. He reads classical literature and philosophy as well as all of the latest books on political science and environmental concerns. His mind is filled with the words of some of the greatest scholars that have lived over the past 1500 years. He works at a neighborhood corner shop stocking shelves and running the cash register. When I asked him why he didnââ¬â¢t get a better job he replied that a more demanding job would interfere with his education, and that he valued knowledge over money. The superintendent that works in my apartment complex told me once that he never read anything he couldnââ¬â¢t apply to his job. If it was a manual on fixing a trash disposal or direction on installing new lighting fixtures, then the reading was worth his time. He said that he really didnââ¬â¢t see the need for any education beyond the obvious needs of his career. Formal study beyond his career was a waste of time because it couldnââ¬â¢t earn him any money. Read a novel for enjoyment or enlightenment? Never. Heââ¬â¢d rather play poker. I list these examples of people I have in my life and their attitudes towards education to illustrate why I am so conflicted about education in many ways, specifically my education and how I should conduct it. I respect all of these people and see the good and bad in the choices they have made relative to their own education. Summarizing my feelings about education is difficult because of the disparate examples, but as I learn more about the world and the people in it, I can see one thing clearly. I can see that an individualââ¬â¢s approach to their education (whatever that may

Is Democracy the best type of Government Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words
Is Democracy the best type of Government - Essay Example In these societies, democracy only served to further the interests of a certain elite who had always been in power. The entry of new faces to the seats of governance was rare and often short-lived. For instance in Vietnamââ¬â¢s case, the country was run by a democratically elected government where the Prime Minister was a cousin of the emperor of Vietnam (Halberstam & Singal, 2008). The democratic policies initiated by this democratic government led to the alienation of large parts of the population, who eventually tilted over to the communist camp and began an insurgency. The democracy under Nguyen Phuc Buu Loc was unable to shelter the interests of the many against the interests of the few. It has to be kept in mind that Vietnam is not the only nation to have suffered a democratic fate due to class divide and lack of equality. The quagmire in West Africa and the Horn of Africa is yet another example of democratic failure that has ruined millions of lives. The democratic system i n these nations allowed the power hungry elite to broker power to themselves leaving millions in desperation. The resulting governments led to the estrangement of the masses which in turn led to bloody civil wars and consequent anarchy (Bassey & Oshita, 2010). The outcomes of democracy in these nations signalled a major change in the very definition of democracy. What Abraham Lincoln declared to be ââ¬Å"of the people, by the people, for the peopleâ⬠at Gettysburg (Wilson, 2006) has become ââ¬Å"of the 1%, by the 1%, for the 1%â⬠in the twenty first century (Stiglitz, 2012). Attempts at promoting democracy across borders have often proved not only difficult but also unmanageable and dangerous. People spearheading the cause of democracy for foreign nations fail to account for socio-economic and historic peculiarities that shape each nation. Imposing a foreign system that the local people are not aware of will never work in such a situation. The recent failed experiments at democratic implantation have failed miserably in both Iraq and Afghanistan (Shadid, 2005) (Hopkins, 2008).
